Metal Finishes Guide

SENTIENT’s in-house metal shop fabricates custom bases, legs, frames, and accent details in steel, brass, and specialty finishes. Every metal element is designed and built alongside the wood components in our Brooklyn workshop, giving us full control over fit, finish, and lead time.

How to Choose a Metal Finish

  • Start with the visual direction: industrial (steel), warm (brass), or decorative (leaf gilding).
  • Consider the wood species pairing. Blackened steel pairs naturally with walnut and oak. Brass adds warmth to lighter woods like maple and ash.
  • Think about maintenance tolerance. Sealed finishes need less attention than living patina finishes.
