Wood Finishes Guide

Wood finishes create appearance, protect the surface, and make wood easier to clean. SENTIENT offers several finish options, including hardwax oil (most common for live edge), water-based finishes, lacquer, and other protective systems depending on the application.

How to Choose a Finish

  • Decide indoor vs outdoor first. Indoor use stresses finishes less than outdoor.
  • Decide your look: natural feel vs higher-build polished film.
  • Decide your maintenance preference: refreshable (oil) vs lower-maintenance (film).
  • If you want high-gloss on open-pored woods (oak, ash), plan pore filling.
