Beauty, Nature And Human Kind

Beauty, Nature And Human Kind

“To be surrounded by the natural world is intuitive design, and in this era necessary as we see ourselves and nature, expand and decline.”

Nature continues to be explored as subject matter within all the creative arenas. It fascinates us as its mysteries frighten us, we know ourselves and nature very little, both are clearly intertwined deepening this unknown and our drive to understand

“The natural world is home and family, worthy of protection.”

To live within nature can be seen as a mirror to the self, to see nature is to see who we are, where we’ve come, the beauty and decay, time and how life flows. To surround oneself with nature, natural materials and even scents pulls us deeper into who we are, our ancestral memories. This slows us down, reconnecting body, mind and sense of place. To be surrounded by the natural world is intuitive design, and in this era necessary as we see ourselves and nature, expand and decline. The natural world is home and family, worthy of protection.

“Natural beauty is within us and without, there is no separation, only a thin veil of skin.”

Beauty is a natural phenomenon, it tugs at a place we know little about, pulls at our awe and wonder, our desire to have and to hold. We have long yearned to replicate beauty, singing its praise and acknowledging our physical need. Natural beauty is within us and without, there is no separation, only a thin veil of skin. In the paintings of Inka Essenhigh this is explored extravagantly through figurative and nature forms. Here there is a fine line between nature and human kind, psychology and realism, fact and fiction. Though leaning towards Surealism, Essenhigh’s natural depictions have a tendency towards the narrative, telling us who we are and showing us through paint and painting. There are in fact mirror and window, Rorschach Test and story book.

Flow Table | SENTIENT

For centuries our built environments have mimicked the natural world with floral patterns, natural woods and fibers. Even within our towers of stacked cubes the natural world cannot be fully ignored of its influence. Though cities can have its lack of natural views, it’s brought in by way of materials and the hand created. This is our continued way of living, our intuitive tendencies towards the natural world and the self. To nourish and to be nourished, to inspire and grow.
