Apr 25 10 THINGS // Pedestal Tables

I'm interested in designing a pedestal table, and I'm trying to convince some of the other guys in the studio who think they always look cheap and anonymous. I want to convince them otherwise! There are a lot of them to investigate, and I've amassed quite a collection of photos on our Pinterest. So, I've decided that this week I'll share some of my design research. Here are some interesting designs that I've found and been inspired by. I always look to vintage pieces to see what's been done in the past, but also benchmark against some current designs.

1) PLINTO Collection for Meridiani, designed by Andrea Parisio, 2015. This evokes memories of the revolutionary clean lines of the Vienna Secession, on of my favorite architectural movements.

2) Tavolo, marble pedestal table with brass base, designed by Ignazio Gardella, 1950. I love the clean lines and simple elegance. Could've been designed in 2010!

3) Vintage Brass, Marble & Glass Dining Table. Designer is unknown, but it certainly is Italian (and weird in the best way).

4) Bell Table by Sebastian Herkner. Love the use of blown colored glass for something other than a vessel.

5) Expandable Danish Teak "Lotus" Dining Table by Dyrlund I'll always have a soft spot for good Danish design.

5) Klutz Table by Andrzej Loza I love the combination of simplicity and playfulness with sophisticated design.

6) Rough Table with Live Edge Walnut I've had this image on my desktop for years. I'm drawn to the intelligent use of live edge wood—there have been so many bad uses of live edge, but something about this speaks to me.
